Sustainability is part of our DNA and we've got big plans.
When we launched Virgin Mobile in the UAE we set out not only to make mobile better, but to go about our business in a way that positively impacts our customers, communities, people, and the planet. We’re committed to running a responsible business, just as our employees and customers expect from us. Sustainability is an increasingly important issue for many and while awareness of the climate crisis has grown rapidly over the last year, we can play our role as a business for actionable change. With intrinsic creativity, innovation, and determination we can adapt for a greener future, together.
2020 was an unusual year for everyone, with the pandemic bringing everything to a halt. More people needed to work from home and the demand for reliable and fast connectivity soared. We made sure to deliver on this need exceptionally so that communities could stay in touch and connected. As the UAE’s first digital mobile brand, we spearheaded home delivery, ensuring the fastest SIM delivery to our customers’ doorsteps whenever they needed. We’ve addressed sustainability with the same tenacity by investing in local projects, including the UAE’s first landfill gas-to-energy initiative and planting trees to reach carbon neutrality, as well as developing bio-degradable SIM cards.
We will take this even further by bringing customers and the community with us on the journey towards being carbon negative. Our innovative team is building a carbon offsetting feature to be deployed on the Virgin Mobile app for customers to use following every transaction. The green initiative with 3 million customers for a greener future together will greatly reduce our carbon footprint beyond where we currently sit as carbon neutral.
